About Us

Why We Exist

For too long, East Central Spokane has endured underinvestment, displacement, and erasure. Despite these barriers, the neighborhood remains a resilient home for generations of Black families, community builders, and entrepreneurs.

Beloved Kijiji stands as a bold answer to that history—a place that uplifts and centers Black voices in shaping what health, housing, and healing should look like. Our goal is simple but powerful: to walk alongside our neighbors in building lives of dignity, stability, and self-determination.

Beloved Kijiji

A Village Rooted in Healing, History, and Hope

At Beloved Kijiji, we believe that home is more than a roof over your head—and that health goes beyond clinic walls. Derived from the Swahili word for “village,” Beloved Kijiji is a space intentionally created to honor Black legacy, promote holistic healing, and build generational wealth through affordable housing and culturally grounded care.

Developed by Maji Rising and Take Up The Cause, Beloved Kijiji is a mixed-use housing and healthcare community located in Spokane’s historic East Central Neighborhood—a place that has long been the heart of the Black community.

Our Vision

Rooted in Community. Designed for Us.

Beloved Kijiji—meaning “beloved village” in Swahili—is a transformative, Black-led housing and healthcare community where every resident is seen, heard, and valued. Through affordable homes, holistic health services, and culturally grounded care, we’re creating a place where Spokane’s Black community and neighbors can thrive—together.

Beloved Kijiji is a movement. A declaration that we deserve spaces where we are safe, seen, and supported.

We’re not just building buildings; we’re building futures.
